1. General information

1.1. Aims of the course

The subject and its expected results respond to the following approaches and objectives:

The main objective of this subject is for Social Work students to become familiar with the habits of economic reasoning and acquire a set of basic knowledge that allows them to identify, understand and assess the economic dimension of different situations related to their future professional activity or their daily perception of the world.

This general objective can be broken down into three partial objectives:

To enable students to learn to use correctly and accurately handle economic language

To make students understand that economic phenomena are part of a complex whole, in which each of the parts that compose it is related to the reality that surrounds them

Students when facing and interpreting different situations to be able to apply economic concepts and principles

These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), in such a way that the acquisition of the learning outcomes of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to its achievement". Especially with the following SDGs:

1.2. Context and importance of this course in the degree

The subject provides the conceptual and methodological aspects of economic science based on the interpretation of phenomena in terms of relative scarcity and the need to choose. Through this forum, the alternative of understanding and analyzing the world around us expands his or her understanding of social structures and processes, social change, and human behavior. In addition, with this subject, the future social worker acquires a very useful tool when making well-informed decisions about the needs, circumstances, risks, preferred options and resources of individuals, families, groups and organizations.

1.3. Recommendations to take this course

Students must face the subject willing to be constant in their study work. In this matter, in addition to the realization of exercises and theoretical-practical questions, comments will be made on economic texts and discussions of cases extracted from the economic reality in which the theoretical concepts seen in class must be applied. Therefore, it is recommended that students are involved and participate in the development of the subject with a critical and reflective spirit. In this context, for to achieve a high degree of use, regular attendance and active participation of students in the various work sessions (theoretical and practical), as well as the availability for study and autonomous work.

-List, define and differentiate the basic concepts of the economy (economic activity and markets, growth and sustainable economic development, inflation, unemployment, labor market, social and economic inequality, social exclusion, poverty, welfare state, fiscal system, economic policy, etc ...)

-Identify and examine specific situations that can be interpreted in economic terms (especially those that affect the social structures and processes of the social worker profession), synthesizing their main components

-Classify, to analyze and use economic instruments in decision-making that affect individuals or social groups, examining their needs and available resources.

-It is worth praying and analyzing the economic dimension of public sector intervention, as well as recognizing and evaluating the effects of public actions in the economic field on the social and institutional context in which individuals live

-Discover, to classify and synthesize the economic concepts contained in texts and technical reports and elaborate works in which the economic concepts and arguments are developed in a clear and precise way

2.3. Importance of learning goals

The profound socio-economic changes that have been taking place, both locally and globally, as well as the economic policy actions that have been implemented in response to these changes require that the social professions, including Social Work, have the necessary tools to better understand these changes and adapt to new realities. Thus, the traditional areas of intervention of Social Work (health, social services, etc.), already endowed with a clear economic dimension, have been added new areas (mediation, development cooperation, etc.) in which the economic dimension has a prominent relevance. Therefore, improving and expanding the knowledge that these professionals have of economic processes, as well as familiarizing them with the habits of economic reasoning is a fundamental task so that future social workers can perform their professional tasks in a competent way.

3. Assessment (1st and 2nd call)

3.1. Assessment tasks (description of tasks, marking system and assessment criteria)

The student must demonstrate that he/she has achieved the expected learning outcomes through the following assessment activities:

Student who regularly attends the learning activities proposed by the teacher must develop:

An objective test type test to evaluate the basic and fundamental contents of the subject developed in the activities-hours Type 1 and an objective test of short questions (open questions, multiple choice, etc.) to evaluate the contents developed in the teaching practice activity Type 2 and Type 6 corresponding to the formulation, analysis and debate of problems or exercises, individual and/or grupal works raised in relation to the Contents Type 1, to be carried out on the date indicated by the teacher.

The final grade will consist of the average of the grades obtained in each of the different teaching activities, according to the following weighting criteria:

60% Teaching activity Type 1

40% Type 2 and Type 6 teaching activity

To be able to do this average, it will be mandatory to have reached in each of the parts a minimum grade established by the teacher.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Test type tests:

The relationship between successes, errors, and omissions in order to obtain the final grade in this type of tests will be specified at the beginning of the teaching period.

Oral/written tests:

The mere attendance, nor the simple presentation of tasks, nor the effort invested, will not be valued, but the degree of achievement achieved based on the following criteria:

Accuracy and precision

Mastery and proper use of concepts Knowledge on the subject Analysis and co-inheritance

The capacity for synthesis and relationship Writing and spelling

The expository capacity, discarding generalizations. Document handling. The capacity for reasoning and organized expression of ideas.

The student who does not attend the learning activities proposed by the teacher must take a written test, in person, on the date established by the calendar of exams of the Faculty of Social sciences and Work. This test, of a theoretical-practical nature, will be based on the contents of the program of the subject.

The Evaluation in 2nd Call will consist of an objective test of short questions to evaluate the contents developed in the Teaching Activities theorical and practice.

In accordance with article 30 of the regulations of Apprenticeship Evaluation Standards, the use of any irregular practice in the performance of the different exercises and / or tests will imply a suspense qualification in the corresponding exercise or test.

4. Methodology, learning tasks, syllabus and resources

The learning process that has been designed for this subject is based on the following:

In them, the teacher will explain the concepts and basic economic notions that allow understanding the role and importance of economics for the understanding of reality, its relationship with the fields of action of Social Work, etc. In these classes the teacher will ask direct questions to the students that allow them to capture the degree of understanding achieved. Students must complement the explanations with the texts indicated in the bibliography by topics available in the ADD-Moodle.
    2. Practice activity sessions. In them, the teacher will debate with the students about different assumptions and theoretical-practical cases related to the concepts previously seen in the Sessions of Type 1 activities. In addition to solving specific problems, students will be asked to discuss the relationship between certain theoretical concepts and some current economic events or events taken from economic history. In this way, it is about the students becoming aware of the connection between the theoretical-practical contents of the subject and the real world.

The approach, methodology and evaluation of this guide is prepared to be the same in any teaching scenario. They will be adjusted to the socio-sanitary conditions of each moment, as well as to the indications given by the competent authorities.

The theoretical teaching activities will consist of expository classes with the complete group, the theoretical foundations of the subject will be exposed and worked.

The pedagogical objective of the activities is that the student becomes aware of the connection between the theoretical contents of the subject and its application to economic reality.

To this end, the Type 2 practical sessions will be a practical approach to the subject, and may consist of exchanges of ideas, debates, opinions, problems, case studies, conferences, comments on texts and / or news, individual and / or group work ...

These Type 2 activities will be carried out on the dates indicated and into the groups established according to the schedules prepared by the decanal team of the center.

On the other hand, students will prepare in advance and autonomously some of the T2 activities to be carried out, according to the time allocation assigned to T6.
